Work history
Funeral Director
After completing one year as funeral arranger, I accomplished a position as funeral director at Co-op Funeralcare Leeds. In this role, I maintained a close relationship with families from the start of the process right through to post-funeral aftercare. I arranged funerals with families and was heavily involved with the following organisational tasks. On the day of the funeral, I was responsible for ensuring everything went according to plan and acted as first point of call when any questions or issues arose. My primary focus was to ensure each family got to know me, trusted me, and were provided with the service they needed to honour their loved one. I managed the day-to-day running and compliance of my base funeral home and prioritised the care and dignity of the deceased and cremated remains I looked after. I continued to work closely with other funeral homes in Leeds, and assisted with the directing of contracted funerals with Leeds Teaching Hospitals and Adult Social Care.
Certified Mobile Funeral Arranger
As the mobile funeral arranger for Co-op Funeralcare Leeds I developed an in-depth understanding of the elements that make up funeral services. The experience I built in this role includes arranging funerals with families, carrying out administrative tasks to prepare for the funeral, caring for the deceased and facilitating visits to the chapel of rest, selling funeral plans regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority, organising contracted funerals with Leeds Teaching Hospitals and Adult Social Care, and working across a number of different funeral homes all with different requirements. This is a role I was truly passionate about and one which taught me something new every day. Furthermore, it gave me the experience and knowledge required to take the role further as a funeral director.
Bar and Events Team Member
In my roles at wedding and events venue New Craven Hall in Leeds, and Student Union bar and events venue The Engine Shed in Lincoln, I served drinks behind the bar and assisted with the smooth running of events such as weddings, corporate events, parties, club nights, concerts, comedy events, and formal balls. This included setup and deconstruction of events, especially during the turnover from wedding ceremony to wedding reception at NCH. At The Engine Shed, I also worked in the cloakroom, box office, and occasionally delivered food service to tables. These were both busy environments where the experience of customers comes first, and taught me a great deal about the events and wedding industry.
Museum Exhibition Invigilator
I supervised the ‘Tubthumping’ Exhibition at Newark's National Civil War Centre, where I collected feedback from visitors and discussed Emilie Taylor’s brilliant work with them. This was an eye-opening experience developing my customer service skills and fuelling my passion for working in heritage, arts, and educational environments.
Student Journalist and Editor
During my time at university, I wrote for The Lincoln Tab where I developed my voice as a writer of articles, particularly ensuring they are entertaining and relevant to the student demographic. I also edited Issue Four of The Lincoln Review which demanded creative judgement and responsibility as I helped the masthead decide which fiction and poetry submissions to accept and reject, while working to meet deadlines.
Campus Jobs School Ambassador
In this role I worked on site at my university’s open days and graduation events where I was trusted to ensure that students and their families knew where to go and could have an easy, enjoyable day. I also spoke about my university experience to prospective students in both small and large groups.
Volunteer at Andrew's Hedgehog Hospital
During my time at Andrew’s, I developed an understanding of working life and used my initiative when caring for sick, injured, and baby hedgehogs. I also assisted during a Christmas fundraiser, giving members of the public the opportunity to see and learn about wild hedgehogs in a safe environment.
